Weekly Money Check-Up: 4.23.12

Weekly Money Check-Up is a weekly series by My Pretty Pennies.

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on dresses. With 2 bridal showers next month, a wedding in July and hot weather coming, I’ve been looking for new dresses.  I was able to find 3 dresses at Ross and spent a total of $45.  1 of the dresses was $3.99 and will be perfect for the hot July Louisiana weather.

2. Today I am thankful for my determination.  I’ve been throwing myself out of my comfort zone quite a bit lately and if it wasn’t for that determination, I’d still be stuck in so many ways.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was going for a looooong hike with The Mister on Saturday.

4. I will consider this week a success if I get some wedding planning done.  T minus 6 months until the big day!

5. I am currently wearing a Cubs T-shirt, yoga pants and slippers. I love comfy clothing!

Weekly Money Check-Up: 4.16.12

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on gas. I was excited to get 300+ miles out of the last tank, but that meant I had to fill up the entire tank.  I can’t believe how expensive it was!

2. Today I am thankful for the rain we’ve had in the last couple of days.  Colorado has been super dry so we needed the moisture!

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was go out with a friend to Doors Open Denver.

4. I will consider this week a success if I get back into my routines.  Last week I went to a 3 day conference which threw off every routine I have.  I am definitely a creature of habit and need that structure back.

5. The last TV show/program I watched was Saved by the Bell.  Last night I watched a documentary on the Bloods and Crips, so I needed to counter balance with something light and goofy.  SBTB was the perfect choice.

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on groceries.  I really didn’t do anything expensive this week, nor did I buy anything new.  It was a pretty low-key week.

2. Today I am thankful for lotion.  Sounds weird, I know, but it’s been super dry lately!

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was I got together with a few girlfriends for our monthly potluck.  This is always a good time.

4. I will consider this week a success if I can keep myself away from sweets.  Last week it seemed like I had cake or pie in my face the entire week and that didn’t go well…

5. This Easter I didn’t really do anything.  I went for a run in the park with The Mister and worked my contract job.  I did get to talk to my grandma on the phone though, and that always makes my day!

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on a Camelbak.  I’ve vied for one for YEARS, but never bought one for various reasons.  I had used The Mister’s old knock off hydration pack for the last couple of years, but the water doesn’t taste right and I noticed a few holes in the backpack part of it.  It was time I get my own; after much comparison shopping, I settled on this style for $54 & free shipping.

2. Today I am thankful for my sturdy legs that get me where I need to be.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was hiking the Royal Arch with The Mister.  I can’t believe how much easier it was to do this year!

4. I will consider this week a success if I increase my exercise activity by 5-10 minutes.

5. I started my blog because I wanted to keep myself accountable and share my journey toward gaining control over my finances and paying off debt.

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on plane tickets to New Orleans.  We just found out that The Mister’s best friend is getting married this summer, so we’re heading down to The Big Easy for a week to help celebrate.  I’m excited to finally see this city!  Luckily I had a $151 credit with the airline, so we got our tickets for about $200 each.

2. Today I am thankful for the beautiful weather we’ve had!  I’ve been getting out and playing all week!

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was play Frisbee with some friends at the park!  I don’t think I’ve thrown a frisbee in at least 10 years.  It was definitely as much fun as I remember it being.  I even got some throwing tips from a homeless man smoking pot at the park.

4. I will consider this week a success if The Mister and I go on our first hike on Saturday like we’ve talked about.  I’m itching to get out!  The hike we’re planning is The Royal Arch.  Being in Boulder, it’s super close.  Being a big ol’ stair master, it’s difficult.  We go every year at the beginning of the summer and I use it to gauge how much more in shape I am than the following year.  It seems to get easier ever year.

5. One thing I love about my home is the space we have.  Our apartment is about 800-ish square feet.  We moved to this 2 bedroom apartment from our first apartment, which was a 600 sq ft, 1 bed room cracker jack box.  I know it’s not the biggest apartment ever, but it seems huge compared to our first apartment together.  It’s also close to everything I need – down town is a 1/2 mile walk, grocery store is about a 1/2 mile, 7 Eleven is a block away, the library is only a few blocks away.  I love walking to where I need to be!

Feel free to answer the above questions in the comments below :)

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on gas.  Good golly it’s gotten expensive!  I decided to fill up my gas tank all the way and it was $37.  I haven’t spent that much on a tank of gas in a LONG TIME!  I sure am glad I have a little fuel-efficient car and not something bigger!

2. Today I am thankful for my amazing ability to sleep.  Yesterday I was soooo tired.  I laid down to take a nap around 2:15, got up around 3:15 and then went back around 4:30.  I got up around 8 for about a 1/2 hour to eat a little something and to make sure everything was turned off.  I went back to bed and woke up rested this morning.  Man was I tired!

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was going for a nice loooong walk with The Mister on Friday night.

4. I will consider this week a success if I blog a few more times than I have lately – I’m feeling like a slacker!

5. If I could afford one unnecessary luxury, I would hire home management staff.  I would love to have someone to cook and clean for me!  I wouldn’t necessarily have them full-time, but it would be fantastic to have someone do those dirty little deeds for me a few times a week. I’m thinking someone like Alice from The Brady Bunch!

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on groceries. Nothing exciting, unfortunately.

2. Today I am thankful for the weekend.  I wish it wasn’t so short!

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was spending a very lazy Saturday, doing nothing much.

4. I will consider this week a success if I make it through with my sanity.  Last week was out of control, so I’m hoping this week will settle down a bit.

5. I consider myself an extrovert, kind of.  It really depends on the day and the situation.  Sometimes I throw myself in the middle of situations and become the center of attention.  Sometimes I kind of sit back and just observe.

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was (aside from bills) I bought a daily deal for registration to the Colfax Marathon 5K.  I’ll be running my first 5k shortly after my 30th birthday :)

2. Today I am thankful for my home.  As I was leaving my apartment at 7am to move my car from a loading zone (to avoid a ticket), I was grumbling and whining to myself…It’s cold out there, I don’t wanna move my car…Then a homeless man pushing a shopping cart crossed my path.  This put things right back into perspective for me.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was spending time with friends I don’t spend nearly enough time with.  I attended a happy hour going away party (and drank just water) and a birthday party.  Both were great fun!

4. I will consider this week a success if I keep up this new-found motivation to exercise.  I’m hoping the weather will cooperate so I can get some jogging in a few days this week.

5. The thing I am most excited about spring is daylight savings and warmer weather.  I’m sick of being stuck in the house because it’s cold and dark.  Bring on spring!

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was (aside from bills), I spent $28 on 2 reams of copy paper, Avery printer labels and a 2 box of Kleenex, but will get this all back by rebate.  I also spent a little money replacing some unmentionables ;)

2. Today I am thankful for my health. I’m back in full swing!

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was finally finishing the entire series of Beverly Hills 90210.  That show really started to go down hill in the later seasons.  I’m glad it’s over.

4. I will consider this week a success if I’m able to get out and run a couple of times.  The weather report looks like this will be possible.

5. The last thing I ate was bratwurst!  The Mister made brats on a table top grill last night for dinner.  He also learned a new fun fact about his future wife – she loves brats!

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was bills, bills, bills.  I also replaced some ill-fitting workout clothes.  It’s nice that I don’t have to continue hiking up my pants while I’m working out :)

2. Today I am thankful for my space heater.  Man, it’s coooold!

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was having a snow day with The Mister!  With 15 inches of snow fall, snuggling on the couch was inevitable!

4. I will consider this week a success if I get my routines back. The last couple of weeks have felt weird without my normal routine.

5. I can’t start my day without coffee, coffee, and more coffee!
