How To Survive When The Humans Won’t Turn Up The Heat

If you’re a cat geek like me, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this.  When it gets cold, we put Josie’s santa pillow next to the space heater.  Not only does she stay warm, but it keeps her out of trouble too.  She’s like a moth to a flame! Step 1: Make sure the humans put your cat pillow next to that damn space heater. I mean, seriously?  How’s a cat supposed to stay warm around here?  Make sure to pester the humans until they put the pillow by the heater. Step 2: Prepare the area, for maximum comfort This includes ‘making … Keep on reading —->

I’m A Cheap Date

It’s true.  I am.  Would you expect anything less? The $7.69 Date On Saturday, The Mister and I decided it was time to go on a date.  A movie and dinner was just the ticket. I had recently won a $20 movie gift card at my agency’s holiday party. {First time I had won ANYTHING at that party.  I gave out a ‘WOO HOO’ when I won…}  This movie gift card was burning a hole in our pocket, so we decided to go ahead use it this weekend.  We looked up the schedule and saw Silver Linings Playbook was playing.  … Keep on reading —->

Stalking the Clearance Guy

Since The Mister and I got back into town on Monday evening, we’ve neglected to sit down and make a grocery list.  Instead we’ve been mainly eating out of the cabinets, with an occasional trip to the grocery store to see if we can score some clearance meats. When we hit up the grocery store, we have a very firm routine to check out the clearance goods – first we go through the produce section to see if there is anything on clearance there, then through the deli, over to the meat section, on to the general merchandise clearance and … Keep on reading —->

A New Business Venture?

We all know I have no luck with side mirrors on my car.  I live in a neighborhood where the majority of cars are parked on the street.  Things happen – people get drunk and drive, people don’t know how to park, people get a little too close when trying to let another car squeeze through – whatever it is, side mirrors in my neighborhood often fall victim to accidents. While strolling through the neighborhood one day, I saw a very shoddy tape job on a side mirror.  I mean, it was baaaaaad!  It was barely hanging on and I’m … Keep on reading —->

Need a New Method?

Are you looking for a new way to get rid of debt?  Perhaps the old-fashioned being-frugal-and-paying-it-off-responsibly method just isn’t working for you any more. Maybe it’s time you look to Voodoo… I saw this when I was in New Orleans at a little Voodoo shop.  I thought it was cute. I assure you, I didn’t buy it.

NOLA

I just got back from a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana.  Man, what a great time! I will admit, I didn’t do my best at being thrifty.  Nope, this social worker was about as unthrifty as I’ve ever been.  I will say, I didn’t spend money on kitschy gift shop crap.  I did buy a few things to bring back and a few gifts for others.  The souvenirs I did buy were from local shops made by local people.  I also bought a couple of pieces of street art to hang on my walls. The majority of the money I … Keep on reading —->

The Money Museum

This past winter a friend and I were downtown one afternoon to ice skate.  After we left the rink, we noticed this really big sign on the Federal Reserve Bank branch on 16th Street Mall that intrigued both of us… We tried to go, but unfortunately it was 4:30 on the dot when we discovered this.  At that point I vowed to see the money museum in the future. Yesterday I got off of work early and had to take my car in for an oil change.  Since the place I go was downtown, I figured this would be my … Keep on reading —->

Find That Inner Child

At the last presentation I did at the Denver Public Library, I encouraged people to think back to when they were children and to think more like a child when it comes to fun.  As I was standing up there telling this to the people in the room, I thought to myself “they probably think I’m a little off…” I was discussing the issue that I’m sure we’ve all faced – I’m boooooored and I don’t have any money! or There’s nothing to do that doesn’t cost money! We often get stuck in this idea that fun equals money spent.  … Keep on reading —->

It’s Finally Hiking Season!

Well, it’s hiking season for me at least.  I’m not down with winter hiking. Last year I wrote about my hiking adventures and I have a feeling this year will be no different.  Unfortunately, The Mister and I may not get to hike as much as we did last year as his schedule may not allow it   But, we will take advantage when we’re able to. Hiking is definitely one of my favorite summer activities for a few reasons.  First of all, its generally free.  Secondly it’s active and fun, which is sometimes a difficult combination for me to … Keep on reading —->
